Graduate Collection "sa vie"
My graduate BA collection centres around the life of Saint Jehanne D’Arc, exploring themes of religious clothing and armoured dress. The narrative of her innocence, success, downfall, and eventual death is told through my seven looks, each uniquely named: The Romantic, The Innocent, The Knight, The Emperor, The Threat, The Moth, and The Fire. These looks portray various aspects and archetypes of femininity, reflecting how women have been perceived both historically and in contemporary times.
I believe Jehanne’s life exemplifies the cruelty women often endure, as well as their passion. I envisioned her life unfolding in gardens, churches, and battle camps in the woods, forging a connection with Nature and God. This relationship with nature is integral to my collection, reflected in my choice of materials. I used natural fibres such as linens, cottons, and animal skins. Although controversial, I am committed to the reuse of vintage leathers and furs, repurposing existing materials to avoid contributing to landfill waste. All the fur in my collection is sourced from damaged fur coats, with their linings transformed into my look 2, The Innocent, and the shorts for looks 6 and 7. I believe that reusing materials not only has ethical value but also brings a unique beauty, as the passage of time gives qualities to fabric that cannot be replicated.
